Lessons are usually 30 minutes weekly (sometimes 60 minutes weekly). I recommend committing to study for at least six months. The first lesson is complimentary as it allows me to get a feel for the student’s skill level and their level of interest. It also gives you a chance to observe my teaching style.

  • Lessons are at my studio in Oak Brook
  • I can also travel to you (cost based on mileage)
  • Beginning to advanced piano lessons
  • Flexible lesson times

WHY TAKE PIANO LESSONS

  • Boosts self-confidence in learning new skills
  • Improves academic skills, specifically math and problem-solving skills
  • Improves discipline and patience
  • Gives a sense of accomplishment as they learn songs and musical terms
  • Inspires creativity and thinking
  • Develops hand/eye coordination and fine motor skills
  • In a US survey, over 80% of adults who don’t play an instrument wish they had learned one.

Recitals and Competitions

Recitals are a vital part of the student’s accomplishments! I plan and organize recitals twice a year to help encourage confidence, foster growth, and show student progress. Depending on their interest, there are also several regional and national piano competitions that I recommend.

As they continuing practicing and performing, they develop confidence and self-esteem, and each performance becomes more natural. I encourage them to take as many opportunities as they can to play for their family and friends, their school and/or church, and perform in competitions.

What Is a good age to start Music lessons?

Children of all ages significantly benefit from a good musical education and I have found that six or seven years old (first or second grade) is a great age to start! However, I also take 4 or 5 year-olds if they are excited and the parents are willing to put a little more time and effort into helping them practice. They can often learn a lot and gain an appreciation of music from a young age!

Older children and adults are great learners too, and I have an accelerated piano course that I use with them. Or if they’ve already had lessons, I’m flexible about the method and books that I use.

Studio Policy

Lessons are usually 30 minutes weekly (sometimes 60 minutes weekly). I recommend committing to study for at least six months. The first lesson is complimentary as it allows me to get a feel for the student’s skill level and their level of interest. It also gives you a chance to observe my teaching style.

Lessons are paid either monthly at the first lesson of each month., or at each lesson. Payment methods include cash, personal check, paypal, or other pre-approved arrangements. Books and other materials (flashcards, games, metronome) are not included in the lesson cost. Contact me for current lesson pricing.

Consistent practice and faithful attendance at lessons is required. Students should come to lessons neat, with nails trimmed and hands washed. The student agrees to arrive at each lesson punctually, well-prepared, and with all necessary materials.

Schedule a consistent time for home practice.  To help your child develop good practice habits, I recommend that early beginners practice 10-15 minutes for 5-6 days a week. Later beginners (after a year or two of lessons) will gradually increase practice time to 30 minutes a day. Practice should be part of a regular routine. Figure out what works best for your child and make that time important.

Encourage progress! Many small steps throughout the year yield great results! Your support as a parent is so helpful. You are welcome to attend lessons at any time. Please check your child’s notebook weekly for helpful info.

Lessons missed by the teacher are not charged. Lessons missed by the student will not be charged if there is a teacher-accepted excuse.

“I have been playing piano with Katie for the past 3 ½ years and have made a lot of progress. I started off only knowing the treble clef and the names of keys on piano, and now I know the bass and treble clef, whole notes through 16th notes, ties and slurs, dotted notes, scales, and tons of music vocabulary. Katie is really patient and kind. If you don’t get something; instead of making you feel bad about not knowing, she can put it into terms you can understand. Katie also keeps you at a good pace to get you through the books. I’m already on my fifth one and currently playing harder songs I never thought I would be able to play! She is good at getting you excited to play piano and even excited to practice your new skills. I highly recommend Katie as your music teacher.”
